Seiko Superior SKZ269 Automatic - masterful timepiece

What you can't see from the picture, as marvelous and hi-rez as it is in zoom mode, is the amazing louvered texture of the white face. It took me a LONG time to make a decision on a new watch for everyday use. Automatic, Eco-drive or Solar was the first criteria. No batteries. My Rolex spoiled me. Waterproof was second. I am not a scuba diver, so for all practical purposes this watch is waterproof. I can't see up close without magna glasses, so a lot of busy looking features on the face are more of a turn off than the turn on they used to be. Alarm function would have been nice. Definitely on my next one. I considered Seiko and Citizen Divers, Casio's ProTrek 500, Citizen's ProMaster SuperTough...But something about this Seiko Superior SKZ269 automatic 200M men's diver kept calling to me. The white face with pinpoint blue accents and black outlined hands is beautiful, fresh and handsome all at once. I work in trees, and for some reason this watch's appearance seems to go hand in hand with a deep breath of fresh air under open sky. Seiko's reputation for a quality movement and striking design is not only legendary, it's nostalgia for me. As a teen I wore a really cool looking Seiko. I just loved that it kept perfect time and the face's finish was wicked enough to hold my attention with a magnifying glass.This SKZ269 is the same, and better. It's heavy, without crossing into clumsy. It's big and thick, but not goofy. The bezel rotates in one direction with a positive detent that clicks loudly and reminds me of a Hollywood firearm sound effect. Any more tiny screws on it and it would start to look like a locomotive boiler. The two tone design of the band is tough, yet upscale, with an easy to operate safety locking clasp. Lumibrite dial looks great in the dark.It's rhythm is different than the Rolex, but every bit as interesting. Can't sit here admiring it too long. That's my life ticking away there!

This watch is very nice.It has a very attractive face, with nice detailing that cannot be easily seen in the website photo.The lume is bright at night, and if it sort of minimalist in that it has just the hour, minute, semi-sweep second, day and date.The outer bezel dial is a rubber compound around a steel inner bezel, so it may be a bit more bump resistant. The bezel is pretty tight, but it is a new watch, and tight is better than losose.The band is quite heavy, unlike some other seiko bands. Resizing the band on your own is a bit tricky, but if you google for instructions before you start, you should be ok.I had been looking for a 23 jewel 200 meter water resistant seiko for quite some time, and got this one for about onehundredsixtyish, worth every penny.I do not see how the earlier reviewer though this was cheap or junky. I would not be willing to pay list price for it, but the Seiko automatics are rugged, well made watches. I don't know of another automatic at this price point that is as well made.

I have been collecting Seiko's and have over 20. This watch was quite a deal and its a very nice casual and fashionable watch. Good mass on your wrist, feels and is a substantial watch.
