By Robert Kohler
I've had the RX-A2000 for about 3 months now. I initially had a setup issue getting the YPAO auto calibration to work properly. For some reason it couldn't calibrate the rear channel speakers - I have a 5.1 speaker setup. I finally called Yamaha, and after having a bad initial experience with their support tech (smarmy and rude), I called back and found that the placement of the supplied YPAO mic was critical. After some experimentation on placement, the cal was able to calibrate the system.I find the receiver to be stunningly open and clear. Some of the DSP settings are a little ginchy, but when using "Straight" mode, movies, music, and internet radio all sound clear, crisp, and deep.I don't like the remote particularly, it has a door at the keyboard that opens to expose another set of keys. I've always hated that approach. I use a Logitech Harmony One universal remote - although Logitech only supports the RX-A1000 in their database. That's close enough for most things. The manual, only supplied in PDF format (come on Yamaha - it's a $1500 receiver!), is terrible. There is no clear explanation of many of the surround features, DSP settings, and a host of other features that the unit has. I'm sure I'm missing out on some things, just because I don't know what the heck they do. I'm an electrical engineer, and am pretty savvy about most things electronic, but have to say again that the manual, almost 200 pages long, it simply bad.I would definitely recommend the unit.

By Paul C
First off the product came in less then 3 days of me ordering.I was shocked how fast and pleased with the packaging.I am not one to understand the complete tech sides of their receivers but I know what was important to me.1) The HDMI's out.. I am using 5 and wanted more just in cass.2) The 3 Zones. I am using 2 and will use 3 over the next few months.3) The video/audio processing. Very happy.4) The Sound Quality. I am using very good Yamaha/Pro Center speakers (7 speakers and subwoofer) and I am just blown away how great everything sounds. From movies to music and even commercials. There are many programs (sound choices) to choose from like 2 channel, 7 channel, live(many formats), cathedral(many options) that will get the effect you desire. The decoding choices are really great too. I am a big PS3 player for Call of Duty and it was like a friggon war zone in my family room. When you get shot, you actually get a little scard because of the feeling you get with the sounds going on. It's pretty funny actually. My only complaint was I had a problem getting my speakers working for about 1/2 hour. I have no idea why. I think the sounds default was not setup to 7 channel and I only had like 3 speakers working at the time. Once I figured out how to get it to 7 channels using the program button I was good to go. I thought at first my wiring was all messed up.. Everything is great now.I love all the speaker configurations they provide as well as the testing and auto setup options.I just used my network cable and was able to see like 100 interest music channels which sound really good. The next step is trying to use the web browser to see what options I can do from there. My goal is really trying to get the most out of the product over the next few months to justify the cost.I paid $1400.Hope you enjoy the product as much as I have.

By stlouisbrad
I'll keep this simple.. I bought this receiver to drive a new 3D home theatre I built. You have to have receiver that supports 3D HDMI (high speed or 1.4 version cables) so the Aventage series fits the bill nicely. After buying a non 3D Yamaha receiver on clearance from Amazon, then returning it, I bought the RX-A800. Then I sold it on eBay once I saw there were iPhone/iPad apps available to control Aventage models with a LAN port (RX-A1000, RX-A2000, RX-A3000). The RXA1000 is really all I needed, but I went for the RX-A2000 for the ability to drive an additional pair of speakers for a 9.2 experience. (Study the "power amp assign" options in the PDF). It takes a separate amplifier which I got from Amazon (Onkyo M-282 2-Channel Power Amplifier).Onkyo M-282 2-Channel Power AmplifierYou can download the HUGE PDF manual (you will get it on CD only in the box anyway). The RX-A2000 has a $400 "HQA" video chip for ANALOG source enhancement which I cannot see the difference on.If you are looking at Yamaha you need to learn about their "lingo". The Aventage series supports non standard (Yamaha only) speakers called "presence speakers" which really enhance the front sound stage. They allow you to "lift the dialog" of the center speaker so the voices seem to come from the "behind" the display. Presence speakers are wonderful for complex sound tracks (I could pinpoint the head hitting the windshield in Inception very precisely..).I spent about $2000 on a 9.1 speaker system from Definitive Technologies (Mythos and Mythos XBR for the Yamaha only presence digital signal processing (DSP as in imaginary computer generated sound). I HIGHLY recommend the Mythos if you can afford them.Just this week (July 13) Yamaha released a second iPad/iPhone app (AV Controller) which enhances the Aventage app shown in the description above. The RX-A2000 is a "2010" model. Yamaha also announced availability (in September 2011) of the 2011 replacement models (RX-A1010, RX-A2010, and RX-3010) . I don't see much difference. You should be able to get the RX-A2000 on clearance soon.I am an Apple fanboy and the GUI and control of the RX-A2000 model is clunky in comparison to an Apple product. An AppleTV makes a wonderful companion. If you want more info.. check out the AVSForum and search for the massive 150 page discussion on the RX-A1000, RX-A2000, and RX-A3000. It's audiophile talk to the extreme but you can learn a lot. Search for "official RX-A2000".
