My First Impression - Alta Pro 264AT w SBH100 Head

First impression is that the tripod and the sbh-100 ballhead are solid. Yes, the legs are a bit challenging to swing and the sections kind of hard to pull out, but that's actually a good thing. Remember that sections that slide easily can also collapse easily. The O-ring on the column is also a cool feature to absorb any accidental release shock to your equipment. A key set is also provided to tighten the legs and the ball head link.There is some play on the tripod/ballhead, but you just need to tighten the column and the quick release plate on the head and it's tight again. I actually like that double security feature on the plate. The tripod/ballhead were actually bigger than I expected, with thick padded legs and a strong core. And it comes with two plates! Keep in mind that the ballhead is a full-range ballhead so you may have to work on leveling your camera.You may have to play with loosening the buttons on the legs to get the multiple leg angles and the rotating/collapsible column is definitely a plus. Overall, it's a beautiful tripod that weighs just right for my equipment. I have a D7000 and my heaviest lens is a Nikon 18-200, looks and feels solid with it. I imagine attaching my flash wouldn't be an additional hassle on the tripod.The case fits the tripod with head almost right, but you need to put the head-plate sideways to shorten the tripod. If the case was only an inch or so longer, would have been perfect to close all the way with the pull cords. But I think the case was designed to hold only the tripod with no head. It also comes with a stone bag, but the tripod is so solid, you probably won't ever need it. Besides, there's a hook on the column if you really want to weight it down.This is just my first impression after playing with my new toy yesterday. I'll have another review after a few months of use. And by the way, stop researching and just buy the damn thing.

Great Tripod !!!

I am using this tripod for almost a month now and I am very happy with my purchase. Quality of the product is very good. Because of the 4 section legs, it's pretty compact and easy to carry around. I gave 4 stars because I think it's little heavy, but over all, I am very happy with the tripod and I think this is the best tripod in around $200 range.

I had been looking for some time to find a good, solid tripod with the features of the Vanguard 264 ball head. This was a great choice, at a very good price. There have been no issues with quality of construction or performance. Great for landscape photography. Would do it all over again!
