Large Heavy Duty Pack for Extended Hiking Trips
By Steven
This pack has everything that I was looking in a price range that is very affordable.Pros: Heavy Duty Construction, Molle webbing for attaching pouches / gear, lots and lots of cargo room for any situation or food stores for extended hikes. Adjustable torso length, user external large pouches for hydration carriers or socks / ponchos, tarps etc. Overall more cargo room pack as an internal frame than I have seen anywhere else in its price range, dull drab color that Cammo / olive drab pouches can be unmounted /mounted on to enhance a hike / pack hunting trip, and the price is low compared to other packs with less features in it's price range. The Nalgene water bottle side pouches are a plus and over sized for easy access and use than other packs where you have to fight to pull them in or out. It is designed to carry large loads for extended hiking / hunting trips. It has the cargo room for northern variable temperature environments where you need flexibility in the day / night / altitude temperature ranges. Everything is heavy duty on this pack.Cons: It is a large pack for a large man to use and hike with. If you do not have a large or Extra Large body frame, then a 65 - 90 liter pack would be a better choice than this huge 128 liter one. Other than that, there is none. It is a large pack to carry a large load by a large framed person.

HUGE!!!
By Jimmy Compton
I must have read over 50 reviews on 50 different bags. From the Blackhawk SOF to the Eberlestock Destroyer. I decided on the Kelty Eagle and am more than pleased with my decision. Here's why: the Blackhawk SOF is a very rugged bag that features an external frame that I am more than accustomed to since I carried the ole Alice Pack while in the Army. I do dig that style of bag and am more than positive it will withstand any kind of abuse I could throw at it. However, it's not a bag I would want to use back home because it is simply meant to be used in forward operating areas and not a weekend trip to grandmas house. The Eberlestock destroyer was really at the top of my list. However, I couldn't find one that was listed at a discounted price. Every web site I found it listed on was high grossing me on the price. Then I found the Kelty. Here on Amazon. $160.00 of MSRP. I grabbed it without thinking twice!!!After the bag got here, to Afghanistan where I am currently at, me and the rest of my team went over it with a fine tooth comb. What we found was simply amazing. This bag is large enough to put a midget in, if that's your thing. There are little pockets EVERYWHERE on this bag. The rain cover is conveniently stored on the bottom of the bag for quick deployment in the event of a downpour. The side pockets are big enough to put a patrol sleeping bag in, if you had to, And their flaps are nicely designed to keep rain out as well. Everything on the carrying harness is completely adjustable. The waist-strap has a really cool setup that allows you to quickly tighten the waistband down and not have a bunch of slack swinging around.Im going out on my first mission this weekend so I will follow up, if there is anything bad to report. But, so far, I do see that happening.BUY THIS BAG!!! IT IS WORTH THE MONEY!!

Excellent large-hauler
By Sonny Lacey
Excellent large-format pack with some rather innovative features. I have been an external-frame packer for quite a long time and have briefly tried a few internal-framed packs over the years. I was looking for a replacement for my trusty (though tired) Jansport Kangenchunga and found this to be the right size.I usually pack a lot: water and fuel being the larger items, since there may not be replenishment on the trail where I go. The Kelty Eagle was just about the same size as my old Jansport and the larger, longitudinal pockets fit my water bottles and fuel canister quite well. The pack's construction is top-notch and quite rugged...actually more rugged than my Jansport, by appearance. We will see over a decade how it goes, but for now the cordura-like material seems tougher than the old-school nylon. The MOLLE/PALS webbing is helpful, since I have gear that I do lash or strap to the outside, both MOLLE and non-MOLLE. With my older external frame pack, I could fashion an attachment for any odd piece of equipment on the frame itself, and this was a concern of mine going to an internal frame pack. The MOLLE/PALS webbing fits the bill, however. For non-military applications, it is easy enough to thread para-cord or your straps for smaller items through the webbing. The only mystery to me was the proper fitting of the hip stabilizers. These are interesting crescent-shaped items that give extra rigidity the the junction between the belt strap and the pack. The Eagle came with a manual, but it failed to have any section detailing how to install these stabilizer gizmos. I took to the Web and found a Kelty pack manual PDF which led me through their installation on another, civilian-style pack. Whether they will be useful or not, I do not know yet.All in all, a good LARGE pack. If you are doing quick overnighters where there is plenty of water and fuel replenishment available, then a smaller pack may be for you. For multi-day treks, this is a very good pack.
