Very Pleased
By Researcher
Had to write this review just in case anyone was in the same boat we were. We have been looking for a replacement women's fastpitch catchers mitt for multiple years to replace an Easton UL20FP 33.5/34". It was not an expensive glove, but that poor glove probably caught 250+ games over the years and literally had multiple holes worn through it. If you are a fan of that Easton model or style of glove, which is discontinued, the Mizuno GXS55 is exceptionally close. We probably sampled 50+ catcher mitts over the last few years, and this one was simply the answer for us. By the way, we also tried the Mizuno GXS53 34" mitt (solid pocket), but the GXS55 was a clear winner for us because of the softer/thicker feel of the leather, how the ball locks into the pocket and simply how well it fit her hand (it likely fit better initially due to the difference in leather). Our daughter plays at college level, but the GXS55 should work for younger catchers quite well. For example, she used the Easton (which as mentioned above is exceptionally similar to this glove) since she was in 7th grade. We know there are higher quality gloves out there, but it is all about balancing quality and the overall feel, with an emphasis on feel, so we are happy and she loves how it works/feels.The leather on the GXS55 is great for us - not too firm yet also not overly soft like some gloves. The ball really locks into the pocket very well -- even when it was brand new the ball had minimal movement. As others say, this glove MAY be easier to break in than others, but the break-in process is very important so don't skip it :)Mizuno claims it has a padded palm, but there is not much padding in our opinion. This is not an issue for us because our daughter catches with a batting-type glove under the catchers mitt.It fits my (Dad's) hand as well (wear a large batting glove). Also keep in mind I only have to catch a few warm-ups and stuff, so I have no idea what it would feel like in a game with a large hand. Can't really consider this too much of a negative, but since it is constructed so closely to the Easton, we suspect that in 2-3 years the stitching on each side of the glove (the double stitching on the front by the thumb and little finger) will fail similar to the Easton. If it does happen, it likely can be fixed with some leather glue and/or at a shoe shop just like we did with the Easton -- and keep in mind, it is only a sub-$100 glove. We would have surrendered the Easton long ago had we found this one sooner.

Great catcher's mitt
By Esco
Very easy to break in the glove. It was actually usable when it was received. The adjustable strap allows it to fit different hand sizes.
