Works as advertised

Easy to install, but need to wear gloves to keep from touching bus bar.Installing is straight forward and the system works. Be sure to go on line and down load the newest manual as the one that comes with it is out of date and confusing. If you are wanting to find out how much power you are consuming, at any moment in time this the unit for you.

This product competes with Current Cost's "EnviR" and a few other companies essentially selling the same thing all for about $100 and up. What makes Efergy's Home Energy Monitor unique is they have a very similar version called a "True Power Meter", which compensates for AC load power factor variations. It has one additional (voltage) sensor, that results in a more accurate wattage reading on the display unit. A true power measurement on the meter correlates much more closely with the electric power consumed from the utility grid. It retails for $144.95, so I wish Amazon.com sold it as well in order get the free shipping.

Connection to the power panel was a bit tricky. The current transformers (probes) must be clamped around each 240v main wire. They are rather large and there wasn't much room to get them to fit around the mains.Installation assumes a surface mount panel. Having a flush mounted panel will require creative ways to get the current transformer (probe) leads out of the panel while the cover is on.The range of the transmitter covered the entire 1 story ranch house. The panel is at one end of the house and I was able to monitor power use at the other end of the house.The daily usage amount is consistently about 3kwh lower than what is reported by the power company. (Hmmmm.) Instantaneous accuracy was within 3% when tested using 100 watt light bulbs.The display is large and easy to read. Backlight only comes on during the PM portion of the day based on the internal clock.
