Attractive, but run large. Those with high insteps may struggle to get them on

These are a very attractive saddle shoe, with the navy blue saddle and leather (as opposed to nubuck or suede) uppers. If you are looking for such a shoe, this is a great example of the classic. It has a nice gum sole, and the leather breaks in well (though it does come out of the box rather stiff). The colors are as you would imagine them (the picture is accurate).Orvis tells you to order them one half size less than you normally wear (in other words, if you wear an 11, order a 10 1/2). This is good advice. Even people with moderately wide feet will fit in a half-size less than their normal shoe size.That said, I panicked when I got them out of the box and tried to get them on my foot. I couldn't even imagine how the shoe would fit over my instep. The shoe came straight (bar) laced, which only exacerbated the problem. So I unlaced them, cross-laced them and tried again. With a shoe horn and lots of pressure (and faith), my high instep fit under the tongue.Once my feet were in, these shoes were comfortable and attractive. But this isn't a shoe I would want to take off for a quick jog at lunch. Still, considering how difficult it is to find an example of this style at this price point, I think it is worth the trouble.
