Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball HeadI do a lot of outdoor photography -- probably more than most (EF5 tornados, lightning, constellations, landscapes and macro photography -- like bees, butterflies and the eyes of dragonflies). I need a tripod that can handle a variety of conditions, and situations, I often encounter like: high winds, extreme rain, large hail, sweltering heat, freezing cold etc.I currently use a couple of Benro tripods ( Benro A0570F Tripod and Tenba 15-inch Black Messenger Bag Bundle and a Benro travel Tripod ) which are adequate for most of my needs -- except, I have discovered, they are extremely light weight (although they do very well with most of my smaller lenses mounted to my camera). I don't trust them with my Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L lens or in high winds. If ya know what I mean. And, they don't have a lot of bells and whistles.Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head is an impressive piece of technology, right out of the box. A bit weightier than what I am used to, but nothing I can't get used to. Inside the box is an Aluminum alloy tripod and Magnesium alloy canopy, High Performance SBH-100 ballhead, quality tripod bag with shoulder strap and stone bag for weighting down the tripod (when situations call for it) -- all in one of my favorite non-colors, black.A few of the things, right off the bat, abut the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Tripod:* thick black metal legs with cushioned uppers for easy gripping/positioning. The legs do not twist out, like I am used to with my Benro tripods, but have a nice quick Flip leg lock. Just Flip the lever, pull out leg, Flip lever back to lock. No more tedious screwing and unscrewing the leg sections. *Life just got a little easier* The metal spiked feet are fantastic for gripping the great outdoors (dirt, snow, mud, lawn etc) , and are hidden for indoor photography (so ya don't scratch up expensive wood/ceramic floors) with just a few twists of the knob. Pressing down a large gray (ergonomic release) button on each leg will get ya 3 different leg angles (25, 50, 80 degrees), for getting into tight spaces -- or, just spreading out your wings, so to speak! :) One can actually control the legs individually -- like for awkward angles on slopping terrain where one would want different leg sizes to get the horizon level for landscape shots etc. There is a bubble level just above the legs, as well.* the center column of the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Tripod not only raises up and down in height, but also (with the flip of a secure lever) one is able to tilt 180 degrees -- both ways -- and lock it down at any desired degree in between. Lots of Fun to be had here! Let your creativity run wild! Fantastic for Macro photography, or photographing the constellations! :)A few of the things I like about the SBH-100 Ball Head:* the SBH-100 Ball Head is a lot larger than the ones that came with my Benros tripods -- No, it will not fit in the palm of My hand. Seemingly well made, sturdy, weighty, with lots of bells and whistles like:-- A double locking system for securing the camera via the Quick Shoe mount, Especially handy when camera is mounted with larger lenses. 2 bubble levels, 2 quick shoe mounts, tools for configuring different things on ball head (if needed),-- the Panorama function offers a very smooth transition when rotated and the increments are bold -- bright white on black -- for easy reading. Nothing jerky about this one! :)-- 90 degree tilt -- again, very smooth, easy to operate.Highly Impressed with this beautiful/functional bit of technology! 'nuf said! :)Does the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head sound like what you may be looking for, in a tripod? :) Highly Recommended! --Katharena Eiermann, 2012

I recently received the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head for review via the Amazon Vine program. Having a nice tripod for setting up shots is always a good idea, and this one looked to be in the professional range of tripod offerings. To give it an even better trial, I decided to see what one of my friends could do with it. He's a professional photographer, and I figured he would give me some insights I might miss on my review. In short, he (and I) loves it!The Vanguard Alta Pro was his first foray into professional-grade tripods. He had gone with "box store" tripods before in an effort to save money, but this tripod had him spoiled in short order. He loved everything about it, but he did offer up some thoughts for someone who might be in the same situation he was in terms of using a cheaper tripod on a regular basis. The Vanguard tripod, being a professional model, is heavier than consumer grade models. That's understandable given the quality of the materials and need for solid stability. He found it to be something you just need to keep in mind when you're putting your kit together for a photo shoot. He also noted that you wouldn't try and use this for unplanned shots. It takes a bit of time to set up, so it's more geared for planned shots where you have the time to make sure to get everything "just so". He noted that the movement of the head was *very* fluid, which made it nice for setting up difficult angles. On the other hand, you have to make sure you're used to the different knobs that are used to tighten up the head in the various angles. It's not a bad thing... just one of those "learn beforehand" things. The only other thing he found off was the leg releases stuck a bit when extending to the maximum height. He wasn't sure if it was just this particular tripod or if it was something that would affect all of them. Regardless, it could make for some precarious juggling if you had your camera attached and you were fighting with the legs.Overall, we both liked the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Tripod with the SBH-100 Ball Head. There may be minor things to nitpic at, but you have to get pretty picky to come up with any substantial "defects". This is well worth the money.Disclosure:Obtained From: Amazon Vine Review ProgramPayment: Free

This tripod is a must-have for any photography/video professional!
