By Forznoles
I have a Sony KDF55WF655 (55" Sony WEGA, purchased March 2005), and several months ago the TV would shut off for about 30 seconds, then would come back on, with the green power light flashing as it was "off." The problem went away, just to come back with a vengeance recently, shutting off for 30 seconds every 55 seconds it was on. Well, some internet research denoted the problem was most likely the bulb. I was told it needed replacing occasionally when I purchased the TV from Best Buy, and that was 6 1/2 years ago, and I had never replaced the bulb. So, I decided to buy a bulb. The Sony website sells this for about $200, and there are off-brands for about $80, so I wanted to save money, but not buy a generic bulb. So, I went with this Philips bulb, for between the two extremes. The third-party reseller was Dynamic Lighting - I ordered on a Saturday, paid a few extra dollars for priority shipping, and they shipped on Tuesday and it arrived on Thursday (cross country, they're in CA and I'm in FL). The box and item appears to be genuine Philips. I followed the instructions in the bulb box (slightly different, and more accurate, than what is in the TV owner's manual), and a small hex wrench was in the bulb box as well. Replacement was straight-forward. I'm a techie kind of person, so I would not say it was "easy," but it was do-able. The wrench wasn't long enough to reach into the screw and turn it completely - there was a casing wall to one side, so I had to do numerous half-turns to unscrew the old bulb and screw in the new one. But, it's done - probably 15 minutes total. And the TV works again. Colors are brighter, and I'm pleased. I can't say the off-brand ones are worse - as noted, I've owned this TV for years, and this is my first bulb replacement. So, if someone wants to go with an Osram generic bulb or something, that's obviously their choice. I also think the extra $20 for a bulb with housing is worth it - it does look more difficult to buy the bulb only and replace them out of the original housing. One final note - those owning the 42" or 50" version of this TV need the 2100 bulb, not the 2200 bulb - the 2200 is for the 55" and 60" versions of the TV. Good luck!

I bought this light from Amazon and they sent me the wrong item. I bought it here and loved what I saw! This is a great price and a confirmed Philips bulb. Make sure to get the philips bulb and not the knock-off which will last you half time of the Philips

By kencal
I received the order in a timely manner. I wanted the genuine Philips brand, since my original lamp had lasted almost 6 years. After seeing some reviews stating that there were several aftermarket brands out there, I payed the higher cost to get the original, or at least I hope so. The lamp came in a plain looking box and had a sheet of paper describing how to tell if the lamp was a Philips. The only problem with that was the markings noted in the sheet were not visible from inside the housing, so I couldn't verify that my lamp had the correct markings without removing it from the housing which would defeat the purpose of buying the complete lamp with housing. The housing looks to be generic and not exactly like the one that came with the TV. I installed the lamp as per instructions and the picture looks really good, nice and bright again. There was not any kind of warranty card as shown in the picture on Amazon. I hope this lamp will give us near the service that the original lamp did, if so, I will be satisfied.
