Ryobi reconditioned 12V drill kit for light use

Before buying this drill in September 2011, I researched drills in Consumer Reports . At that time, their last test of drills had been done in November 2009, and only one light use drill was listed. I didn't like it much, but was ready to settle for it. Then I saw this one at a Home Depot store, and liked it much better. I found it as a reconditioned product, on Amazon. The price couldn't be beat, so I bought it and have been well pleased. CR now has a current test that includes 11 light use drills, but not this one, in the December 2011 issue. I'd still buy this one. My reasons are:1. Light weight. It weighs only 2 lb. 8 oz. I don't need a 5 lb. drill, no matter how good it is.2. It comes with 2 lithium-ion batteries. They are lighter than ni-cad batteries, and charge fast, so there doesn't have to be any wait time. If one battery runs out of juice, just switch to the other while the first one recharges. Some of the lower priced drills come with only one battery. Additional batteries, if you can find them, are expensive when purchased separately.3. Good balance and handling, and a very comfortable grip. Some drills tend to fall over when you set them down. This one does not.4. Good performance and good control while using it. This is my opinion. I'm not an engineer and have no way to compare different products. But this drill does everything I need to do around the house.5. Features (adjustable clutch, etc.) are equal to or better than other drills that I looked at.One quibble: The letters 'REFURB' are stamped into the soft plastic parts of the drill and batteries. That doesn't bother me; the drill still has a 1 year warranty. (I think the warranty is 2 years if you buy it new).The only thing I could wish for is a hard plastic case instead of the soft tool bag that comes with the drill. The bag does have mesh pockets for the charger and cord, and 3 velcro straps to hold the drill in place with one battery attached. There is enough space, but no pocket, for the second battery. That's perfectly adequate, I'd just like a hard case better.

Been using this little drill for about a week now. Even though it was reconditioned and looked a little beat up, what a drill. I'm still on the first charge, and so far have been able to drive 3" screws in very old 2x4's with no problem. Light weight compared to the two Skil's I just tossed out (recycled the batteries) So far it's more than I had hoped for. Chuck does loosen once in awhile when I'm in a hurry, and don't take the time to properly secure the bit. If I get a year out of this little guy, I'll buy another. I'm hard on drills so for the money I'd do it again

I'm a homeowner, not a contractor. I've owned several Ryobi battery powered drill motors. This the best of the 12v's I've owned, and the L-ion battery is fantastic. This is making me think it'll be worth the money to upgrade my 18v to L-ion batteries. I've been using this drill motor for the last 3 weeks around the house and it hasn't shown any weakening of the power yet!
