Solid quality, great fun!

I recently moved to a rural area where I am free to plink and target shoot at will. But with ammo still in such limited supply, I decided to go with a quality adult air rifle. I already own a very old, pneumatic Sheridan Silver Streak which still works quite well, but I wanted a modern, spring action that only requires one cock to have the power of multiple pumps. I did a lot of research reading reviews, watching Youtube video reviews and reading up on current airgun technology in general. I wanted to keep my purchase as close to $100 as possible and I did not want a scoped model - I prefer the challenge of open sights.The Stoeger X10 seemed like the perfect fit. When it arrived, I found it to be of very solid build with a design stemming from obvious experience in the industry. I did find it a bit on the heavy side, but very nicely balanced. I ordered a number of various pellet types and weights as recommended in order to find what might work best for me under various circumstances. Love the all black look and the front (red) and rear (green) fiber optic sights that "pop" for quick and sure sight picture acquisition. I found the barrel easy enough to break and about as firm as I would expect to cock (not for young children). The automatic safety engages when you cock it and conveniently snaps off with a semi-firm push of the thumb, without throwing off your grip.When I first fired it, I found the sound quite manageable. If I was creating a sonic boom, I couldn't tell it. I was firing rather standard pellets at first (not more than 7.4 gr). I used a tin can as my first target at about 10 yards - and could barely hit it. But I had no idea which way I was shooting because I had no backdrop to tell where the missed shots were going. I found it frustrating. I tried several more sessions over coming days with a tin can again and only began to hit it marginally better, but was still frustrated by the large number of misses. But I knew better. I should have been using a target initially in order to tell which way to sight it in better.So recently, I setup a nice paper target, the type that glows where you hit it. I also used some 9.6 gr round-nosed pellets. I stood about 15 yards out this time and immediately found that I was shooting high and right. I started sighting it in still not using a bench, just standing) and finally got it under control. Then WOW! I fell all the rest of the way in love with this air rifle! Once you know where it's hitting and get it sighted in, you can put that pellet right where you want it almost every time! And I still plan to use a bench and a proper rest (with pillows to allow for that double recoil spring guns are known for) to get this Stoeger even more pinpoint accurate! And I still haven't gone through more than maybe 150 pellets in the break-in phase too.Great way to get in your target shooting fix without worry of the current ammo crunch! I am certain this rifle would work great for small game hunting and varmint control as well. Solid build, experienced design, easy to handle (for an adult male) and highly accurate with stock, open sights! Yes, I fully recommend this wonderful spring action air rifle!

It is nice to shoot a rifle that is accurate like this one is.Two years with a beeman rs 2 and it still is all over a nine inch round target. Got mad and put it's scope on this x10, a leapers 3-9x40. It's zero on in just a few adjustments, 1 " group at 30 yards. That makes shooting fun again, in the Navy I hit all I shot atwith my M 16, so I knew it was not me, even after 40 years.Buy this thing, mine is the synthetic.Weighs like my 22 so iT's good TO KEEP MY EYE SHARP TILL GROUND SQUIRRELS are out and ready.
