Space to store info has come a very long way in the past few years - New SSD storage is about 1/8th the size of a conventional hard drive, yet can hold just as much information(if you have the budget for it). SSDs are a great way to improve performance in your OS or even in your productivity (or lack there of w/games). Some of the pros are that they are light weight, low power consumption, long life, and blindingly fast. Some of the cons are the price, learning curve, and reliability.I chose the C300 because of its track record for reliability and price (vs ie. Intel). New Crucial M4 drives are a basic refresher to these and do not over significant performance upgrade over last gen drives(C300) and command a higher top dollar. I would've gone with an OCZ brand but they just seem to have too many reliability issues to put my faith in them yet. I ran into some problems with the cloning software, buyer beware that a dirty little secret for SSDs is that it is rare for a clone drive to work properly without a lot of tooling around. For me the Apricorn software provided cloned my HDD to my SSD within about 1hr - the problem was that upon rebooting it destroyed my Master Boot Record for BOTH of my drives, so it essentially prevented me from starting either. I reinstalled Win7 onto my SSD HDD computer but lost all my data so I started from scratch. My hdd was recognized immediately so I didn't have any problems on that particular issue that some users have. The drive seemed to come with the latest Firmware but I had some extensive trouble starting AHCI and TRIM support on it, after doing research I was finally able to resolve my BSOD from enabled AHCI and was able to enable TRIM once I figured how to let windows see me as an administrator. This def. helped performance perk up with the drive after letting things sit around.I def recommend it for system builders, this is by far one of the best upgrades in my arsenal and truly feels worth the money. I will most likely get another pair to install software and games onto once price re-adjusts. As for the drive I recommend just stick with the vanilla drive and save yourself the hassle of attempting to clone your HDD.Worth your Investment: YesDifficulty: (Med-Hard)Stick to: Just the DriveDon't Forget: SATA cable, HDD bay adapter.Score: 8.5/10

I am giving 5 stars to the Crucial SSD, it is an unbelievable upgrade for any computer. I bought one for my laptop and another for my desktop, they both are completely new computers. Now, about the data transfer kit, it is a joke, what a piece of crap. This software does not work at all! You can download better programs for free.

I installed this SSD in an Asus G73JW notebook. It was a little tricky to get the BIOS to recognize it in AHCI mode, until I switched the SSD to the other drive bay. Probably an Asus issue, not an issue with this SSD.I've only installed my OS (Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit) and MS Office 2010 onto the SSD. Just about everything else should go on the HDD.My Windows 7 Ultimate load time went from 1 minute to login screen before SSD to 18 seconds to login screen with this SSD installed. This thing is an amazing addition to any upper-end system. The price per Gigabyte is steep, yes, but the increase in performance will impress you; applications like MS Word, for example, become almost instantly responsive when I go to open them.My Windows Experience rating went from a 5.9 HDD bottleneck to this baby churning out a smoking 7.6. (My low-end is now my graphics card).Mine came with firmware v0006 already installed.
